About the Company

Begin Again Wellness was created at Xavier University of Louisiana after a student by the name Breanne Brooks wandered the halls in search for a snack and noticed that there weren’t many healthy food options. After coming across vending machine after vending machine and being met with junk food and soda; she decided to do something about it. Diving deeper under the surface she found an even bigger issue, Xavier wasn’t the only place suffering from this but most of New Orleans lacked access to healthier food options and many parts of the city were food deserts. It was that day Begin Again Wellness was born. She created a social enterprise that not only provided access to healthier food through vending machines but bridged the gap between the state and the people by using 50% of her profits towards community events. This was a game changer for the city and brought New Orleans back together in a way we hadn’t seen in quite sometime. Begin Again is a start-up company, but with the right support it can grow into a franchise and expand to opening it’s own local community center and grocery stores all over the city and one day the country.

Pitch Summary

Begin Again Wellness is a Social Enterprise based in New Orleans, LA. We promote healthy eating and living and push for impartiality in the community. Growing up in New Orleans was beautiful, but the food can be extremely detrimental to the health of our citizens. New Orleans has an alarming number of Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and Obesity cases that are constantly on the rise. These extremities are happening at a higher rate in children from the age of 6-17 years and citizens 50 and over.

Our community has also suffered dramatically since Hurricane Katrina with crime.

The crime rate has grown by 35% since 2005. Our education system is underfunded and community programs are constantly shutting down. This cannot stand! I am proposing we make healthier food options more accessible to all corporate businesses, high schools and universities using our free Begin Again Vending Machines. Each vending machine comes stocked with many nutrient dense foods and drinks for a healthier diet and lifestyle. 30% of our earnings at Begin Again Wellness are directly given to creating community events that allow college students to volunteer time walking with the elderly or playing games like Football, Soccer and Volleyball with grade school kids. Free healthy snacks and drinks will be provided alongside music to incorporate our New Orleans roots. We will also have special guests and local organizations that are willing to come out to every event to improve health literacy, educate the community on local health organizations and provide services like providing healthy recipes or a Kinesiologist giving simple blood pressure test. Help me create a company that cares about the people it serves.

New Orleans has fallen many times but we always Begin Again.
